information is given about storing both drinking water and water for household
needs. This is one of those household needs where you need water.
For short term emergencies, you may want to store paper plates
and cups.
Sanitary Needs
In a best case scenario, if you have stored water or access to
water from lakes or rivers, you can use it to flush your household toilets.
For short term emergency situations you can use Porta Potties
indoors, or purchase plastic bags that fit over household toilet bowls.
However, when the plastic bags and chemicals run out, you are
going to have to set up what use to be know as the "outhouse."
For privacy purposes you can purchase nylon shelters specifically
designed for Porta Potties. You can also use a tent.
If you eventually have to dig a hole in the ground, you can still
use your tent for privacy, but you will have to cut a hole in the bottom of the
floor of the tent.
Emergency Porta Potties can be purchased at sporting stores or
stores that specialize in emergency goods. Porta Potties vary in design. Some look more like a toilet and
others are more like buckets with toilet seats.
Other less common items to store for sanitation are portable
showers, wipes intended for emergency use, antiseptic hand lotions, respirator
masks, disposable toothbrushes, and small hand operated washing machines.
